Eureka! Shorts that Fit

Linen shorts finished!

Earlier this summer, I came across a post (I think on Pattern Review) by a happy Eureka! wearer who had made shorts with her pattern.  What a great idea!  I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of it sooner.  Like all testing projects, I began with a look through my…

Fireworks Rayon Shirt

Rayon Fireworks Shirt

While we were at the Original Sewing and Quilt Expo in Cleveland, I picked up a combo of rayon batiks from one of our favorite vendors, Sew Batik, to create a summer top.  Of course I had to use our new Rain or Shine Variations for the Tabula Rasa Jacket!…

Wide Leg Pants for Summer

Wide leg pants in mulberry cotton batik

Summer seems the perfect time to wear a pair of cool wide legged pants, so I decided to try my hand at creating some.  Step one, as always, search the stash for an appropriate fabric to test this idea.  Lucky for me, my darling daughter has brought me several lengths…

TR Camp Shirts for Summer

Carrie in Camp Shirt

A few weeks ago we had a brief spurt of warm weather which got me to thinking about my summer tops.  I really like to wear a “camp shirt” in warm weather, which I think of as having short sleeves and collar on a relaxed fitting shirt that falls open…

Wrap It Up with an Obi Belt or Sash

Anna Modeling Obi Belt 2

A few months ago we posted a blog with directions on how to alter your Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern to give it a trimmer fit.  Today we are presenting an alternative method for pulling the jacket in to define your waist by adding an obi belt or attached sash!  Detailed directions…

Challenge to Self!

“A little challenge goes a long way when you want to take your sewing up a notch.”  This is the opening sentence of the description for a new class I am teaching at the Original Sewing & Quilt Expos (OSQE) this spring.  It also captures my philosophy of sewing.  I…

Trimmer Fitting Tabula Rasa Jacket

Brown Plaid wool

Occasionally a prospective customer comments that she doesn’t like the “boxy” style of the Tabula Rasa Jacket.  The TRJ pattern was deliberately designed with fairly straight seams to make the pattern an easy “blank slate” for wearable art, and to keep construction simple.  If you would prefer a curvier fit…

Boiled Wool Sweater Jacket

While in Minneapolis last fall for the ASDP conference, I purchased a lovely piece of peacock blue boiled wool from a local fabric store, Treadle Yard Goods.  I’m guessing it is a boiled wool jersey because it is softer and drapier than the boiled wool that I associate with…

Ringing in the New Year

Waiting for our turn to unload at the convention center in Houston.

We send our best wishes for a productive and fulfilling year in 2016!  With the new year just around the corner, we’ve been looking back at Fit for Art in 2015 and making plans for 2016.  It is rewarding to realize that we really did accomplish much, although it did…

Pants with a Shaped Waistband

Wool shaped waistband with tab and lining.

I love the clean lines of the back zipper Eureka! Pants with a faced waist, but I have struggled to get them to stay put on me, especially since I like to wear them a little below my waist.  Finally I’ve settled on  a waistband that satisfies my style and fitting…
