Russian Dolls Vest

Rae had fun creating this vest from a variety of cotton quilt fabrics.  She bought the Russian Dolls print when we were at an expo and found all the rest in her stash, several of which were left over from a Hoffman Challenge creation.  In piecing the vest, Rae experimented with wavy seam lines.  She finished by free-motion quilting the vest with a pattern of beets – because who doesn’t associate beets with Russia!  (You can see the beet pattern on the back of the vest if you look closely at the enlarged photo.) Read more about this vest’s design in the post, Gathering Fabric for a Quilted Vest.

The vest is simply constructed from the Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern without sleeves.  The Shawl Collar comes from Band Variations for the TRJ.  Follow our directions for making a vest with the  Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern in our free download, Making a Tabula Rasa Vest.  You can also find our advice for making quilted garments in Tips for Quilted Jackets.
