Diamond Button Frame Shirt

This Tabula Rasa Shirt is made with beautiful cotton ikats purchased from Mekong River Textiles, a small importer of fabrics from southeast Asia.  These cottons wear well and when washed become quite soft and comfortable.  Rae set off the pink shades in the flowers with a solid pink cotton used as the contrasting shirt collar, diamond-shaped button frames, piping along the side seams, and at the cuff.  Button frames are a practical solution for large heavy buttons, like these ceramic ones, because they lend support as well as adding a nice decorative touch.  The side view shows the side vents added to the shirt and accented with the piping.  Instructions for creating a shirt with collar and side vents from the TRJ pattern are included in Shirt Variations for the Tabula Rasa Jacket.  The soft colors and weight of this fabric are perfect for Spring!  You can read more about Rae’s decision-making process for this shirt jacket in this archived blog post.
