To-Do List Successes

It is Spring in our part of the world and we are experiencing classic Mid-Atlantic weather.  Some days are sunny and cool, others are hot and humid, then it turns chilly and rainy.  We don’t often write about the weather but we do write about getting dressed and this time of year, Rae’s closet is jammed with winter to summer choices.  Her to-do list is, likewise, full of winter’s leftovers tasks and a host of spring and summer priorities that need attention.  She will tell you about her recent to-do list successes.

Make New Pants

Ready to stitch together two New Pants in February

Some fresh new pants have been on my to do list for a couple of years and over the last month I have made a basic tapered Eureka pant in navy and an olive pull-on pair of ponte Eureka pants.  Both fabrics have been around long enough that it feels great to finally have the new pants in my wardrobe rotation.

Finally finished in April!

Play with Paper and Fabric

Also on my to-do list was a memory book sample to use during our Spark Creativity in Enchanting France retreat August 20-27.  In January I met with Aline, our Antique Fabric and Paper purveyor, and gathered some lovely papers and fabrics for the project. But the time and space to work on it just seemed out of reach.

Fortunately, there was a bit of breathing room around the Easter Holiday with the time to clean off the zoom studio table.  It was the perfect place to play with the papers and fabrics.  Over a week, the fun little book took shape, made with a greeting card as the base.

Scheduling time to Plan New Work

New fabric for a summer top draped and searching for a design, ideas anyone?

Any creative endeavor takes time, physical work space and also open inclinations to focus your mind on the task at hand.  The pants were made on auto pilot in my sewing space, but my book samples and my recently discussed design time with the ditto form were enhanced by the fact that I had 2 whole weeks of uncluttered brain space to spread my wings and wallow in the uncertainty of each process.

As the calendar moves toward the next two weekends, I will be organizing virtual classes for the Willamette Valley ASG Spring Fling: Four Seasons of Jackets From One Pattern and Four Core Patterns, One Great Wardrobe.  The following week I will be planning the ASG National Spring Virtual Conference session, Creative Fabric Play.  That session and 5 others with terrific speakers are open for you to register.  Sign up for the Fit for Art session on Friday the 24th at 2PM, or for all the sessions, where you can buy 6 for the cost of 5.

Join in the Fun

If you are interested in hosting virtual or live classes with Fit for Art, check out our list of possible workshops and classes.  It has been updated with several new offerings we think you and your sewing group or guild will enjoy. Those updates represent another of Rae’s To-Do List Successes, fresh information on our website so you can take advantage of all that Fit for Art has to offer.

Our event calendar will take you to the registration pages for both our 2026 French adventure or closer to home, the April 24 ASG National Virtual Conference.  Keep an eye on our Social Media pages for a ditto-form photo of the week as I try out lots of fun new makes to add to my spring/summer to do list (now that some things have been checked off).

Hope you will put us on your to-do list and join us for new adventures in 2026.

Happy Planning and Creative Play, RAE
