Our February is chock full of online appearances and classes to help chase away the 2021 pandemic winter blues. Even as busy sewists (which is an indoor, isolated activity), this pandemic and our cold icy winter is getting us down. What better way to lift our spirits than to visit with sewing friends at the Zoom Sewing and Stitchery Expo?
If this were a normal year, Carrie and I would be crazy busy packing boxes and suitcases to fly to Seattle for this large and storied show.
The Sewing & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup WA is on many stitcher’s bucket list; this year you can enjoy the inspiration from the comfort of your own home for the very minimal cost of purchasing a general admission ticket. There are also one-needle to four- needle classes which require additional tickets and pre-registration. Visit the Expo site to see a complete list of the available classes, excellent teachers and vendor hall participants and to register. (Please note that all times in the Expo brochure and here are listed for the Pacific Standard Time. Be sure to make a note of the correct time for your location to catch these events.)
Our one needle class offered on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT and Saturday at 4 p.m. PT is entitled Square Armhole Magic. It will be a fun look at the square armhole construction featured on our Tabula Rasa Jacket and Tabula Rasa Knit patterns. We will see how easy this shape is for fitting, construction and artful design and of course, a little trunk show will be included. Are there favorites from our online gallery you would like to see? Be sure to let us know so we can include them in our presentation.
The Vendor booth will be live on Zoom Wednesday at 1 p.m. PT and 9 a.m. PT on Saturday. Carrie and I will both be there to visit with you, show you what is special about our patterns and offer some special deals. How we long to see you, so please plan to visit with us in “our booth”.
On the free stage Wednesday and Friday at 2-4 p.m. PT, I will be teaching a two part class entitled Sew Distinctive Clothing from your Stash. This is a fun look at how to design tops and jackets using scraps or small pieces of fabric. We will explore tried and true techniques for easily mixing fabrics into new tops and jackets.
Check out these posts from our archive for a little preview:
You don’t even have to register for this two-part class, just use your general admission ticket code to log in and access the free stage.
We will look closely at techniques so you will look at your stash with new eyes.
There might even be a preview of some new products on the horizon.
Our goal is to inspire your 2021 sewing so you will be ready for a stylish and comfortable reentry into the post pandemic world when we can once again see each other in person!
Stay Well and Sew Happy, RAE
I would love to see the Tabula Rasas that you made with upcycled pieces of Japanese kimono – they were featured in Threads magazine. You showed 3 ways to piece the fabrics in the magazine, and I would love a longer discussion of choosing coordinates from among my ton of Japanese kimono pieces!
Julie, the silk pieced garments from Threads will be featured in the Sew Distinctive two part class on the SSE free stage. Hope you will join in the fun.
