Carrie made this Tabula Rasa Jacket in 2013 (!) from textured Japanese cotton and scraps of silk faille. It was her first effort with a TRJ front band that crosses the body and stops well short of the hem – similar to a bathrobe that wraps and is closed with a tie belt. The concept for the origami-like folds in the accent fabric was borrowed from a Marcy Tilton Wearable Art pattern, Vogue 8454. Carrie prepared a large piece of washed silk faille with overlapping pin tucks stitched vertically, horizontally and diagonally. The band, cuffs and back belt pieces were then cut from the prepared fabric. The tagua nut buttons were purchased at a sewing expo from Dusty’s Vintage Buttons.
The side panels and piping on the jacket were cut from the same fabric as the body of the jacket, but with the “wrong” side up. Notice the front pocket with a diagonal edge that parallels the diagonally crossing band. The jacket is lined with black China silk.
