This striking quilted Tabula Rasa Jacket was made from two very bold and bright Kaffe Fassett prints. The Fassett graphics, while beautiful, can be challenging to use in garments because they can overwhelm one. Rae tamed these wild prints with a calming batik in similar (but not quite so strong) colors and a technique she read about in Maverick Quilts by Alethea Ballard. This particular technique is called “Jalousie”. Quilting books offer great ideas and techniques that can be scaled and adapted for terrific jackets! See Tips for Quilted Jackets for more info on making a successful quilted jacket.
The Jalousie Windows jacket is gorgeous!!!
My niece is getting married soon and I’ve been searching high and low for a beautiful jacket to wear to the wedding (I don’t want to wear a dress). I’ve literally spent countless hours and this is the first time I’ve come across something that strikes the right chord. It’s very hard to find colorful jackets that don’t have a black background (I love wearing black but it’s not appropriate for this wedding).
