This is the time of year where all social media feeds are encouraging fall wardrobe updates. At our planning meeting last week we decided to create an Inspo Board of Autumn Makes on Pinterest. It is heavily populated with sweater style knits from our Wide Neckline and Clever Crossings Variations, Tabula Rasa Jackets enhanced with Jean Jacket Variations, and Eureka Pants featuring the Glamour Details Variations. So it seemed like the perfect time to encourage you to lean into these variation patterns for fall 2025. Cozy cocooning knits are on trend this fall, so the Wide Neckline Variations for the Tabula Rasa Knit pattern offer beautiful boat necks perfect for setting off a terrific scarf or adding collars for extra interest. For our coziest collar, use the Cowl neck surplice from Clever Crossing Variations. Both patterns can be made in jersey or light weight sweater knits with great success.

Jean Jackets are everywhere this year. Make a classic like Carrie’s in black denim, or use lots of denim scraps, like Rae did, for a variation on the basic look. Both designs are in the Jean Jacket Variations pattern.

Rae hopes to quilt a jean jacket using this interesting collection of fabrics and bias tape. Or, find a tired jean jacket in your closet and decorate it for an easy refresh.

Follow the continuing trend to add wide leg pants to your wardrobe with our Glamour Details for Eureka! Pants that Fit. These pants are so comfortable, they are worth the energy to adjust your core pattern. If you don’t want wide legs, add the contoured waistband to a more tapered pant silhouette.

If you want to be perfectly on trend, stitch up your new creations in trending autumnal colors Merlot wines or dark Chocolate Browns. Tops in these colors can easily coordinate with the blue denim or black separates already in your wardrobe.

If you have never worked with a variation pattern before, it is pretty straight forward and, of course, we include detailed instructions. But you do need to have a personalized core pattern for the Fit for Art magic to work. Consider attending our annual Fall Retreat, November 13-15, where we can help you polish your core wardrobe patterns and start sewing with variations.

So, what are you waiting for? Get sewing. Search your stash or your favorite fabric vendors for some great fabric and begin to plan your new makes. Don’t forget to lean into variations for fall sewing as well. The design possibilities are endless!
