As we in the United States wish a Happy Birthday to America, we often sport clothes in the colors of the flag. Red, white and blue is such a classic color combination. Since all our patriotic holidays are in the summer, it’s the warm weather wardrobe that calls for red, white, and blue additions. Newspapers, Pinterest, and store windows are full of crazy patriotic attire with lots of stripes and stars.
Subtle statements are more my style and since we have been working on a new variation for the Tabula Rasa Knit Tee and Tunic pattern, I have added two tops that are apropos for our country’s birthday. Since we are not quite ready for the Clever Crossings big reveal, there are no details here just a couple photos to tease you.
The pants are Eureka’s! of course. The blue and white rayon pants are a comfortable wide leg version with an elastic waist. The narrow denim pants are slightly cropped and slit, perfect for summer. Both outfits are just right for our backyard BBQ celebration.
I come by this habit of dressing patriotically naturally. Here I am with my mom on Memorial Day. We are attending the picnic at her retirement home. I am wearing a wide neckline variation TRK tunic and got two of the three patriotic colors covered.
I have also been known to wear my blue and white rayon pants with my white angled collar TRK tee and red accessories.
How do you celebrate the 4th of July? Do you need some patriotic summer knits? Plan to take the Tabula Rasa Knit Tee and Tunic class at Capital Quilts July 13-14 or sew with us at our Summer’s End Sew In, August 23-26. That way, you will be ready for the Labor Day Celebration, summer’s last hurrah.
Happy Sewing, RAE
PS. Here is another 4th of July memory. On July 4 2013 I was honored to sew on the reproduction Star Spangled Banner being made at Fort McHenry to celebrate the bi-centennial of the composition of our National Anthem in Baltimore during the war of 1812.
I love Rae and love her artful skills. Any chance that there are openings for the Fit for Art pants class in September?
Thanks Marijo, I will e-mail you about the pants licensing details. Thanks for asking. RAE
