Twirling Parasols

Have fun combining fabrics with the new Crossover Front V and Back V Yoke from V Neckline Variations for the Carpe Diem Dress & Tunic. Carrie purchased the striped shirting at a Joann Fabrics closing sale and then discovered the perfect go-with in her stash of Liberty of London 1/2 yard cuts picked up several years ago on a trip to France. The front and back V yokes feature the Liberty fabric and are lined with the striped shirting turned horizontally. To bring the parasol themed fabric into another element of the top, Carrie shortened and widened the 3/4 length Carpe Diem sleeves and gathered them into a simple band/cuff. She also added hem vents at the four side seams, much like those described in Hot Summer Circles and the post Hems for Unlined Tabula Rasa Jackets.

As it turned out, the back yoke was a little too wide, allowing the top to slip off Carrie’s shoulders. The problem was solved with the addition of lingerie straps at the shoulder seams to anchor the shoulders in place! While you won’t have this problem when using the final Back V Yoke pattern (we tamed it down a bit) in V Neckline Variations, the instruction book includes directions for adding lingerie straps for when you do want a more dramatic look.
