Carrie’s Boro Vest was a labor of love! This vest is the basic Tabula Rasa Jacket (without sleeves ) finished as a vest as described in our free download Make a Tabula Rasa Vest. The outer layer is a collage of cotton ikat scraps laid over an inner layer of muslin and lining of quilting cotton. The three layers are quilted together with a hand stitching technique known as boro, borrowed from an ancient Japanese practice of mending garments with patches and straight stitching. Carrie used a variety of colors of perle cotton embroidery thread for the quilting work. Read more about Carrie’s process and choices in the blog posts Boro Vest Completed and Boro Report.
