Sew Successfully with Fit for Art

Rae and Carrie sure are looking forward to being with friends old and new to help you sew successfully this spring! There is still time to join us for three full days of one-on-one assistance at Fit for Art’s Sew Successfully Spring 2025 retreat, April 4-6 to accomplish your sewing priorities. One of the great pleasures of a retreat, for us and our guests, is the time to sew among like-minded friends who encourage each other, offer thoughtful opinions (when solicited), and brainstorm ideas that might not have occurred to one working alone.

Why Retreat with Fit for Art?

The format of these semi-annual retreats is simple: you bring the projects you most want to work on with guidance from Rae and Carrie and we facilitate your progress. Many guests of our Sew Successfully Retreats come to focus on getting a good fit so they can be ready to sew up a storm when they get home. Our fitting shells facilitate a quick start on fitting any of the four core patterns, followed by one-on-one support in making the needed pattern adjustments. Sew up a mock-up (using the mock-up fabrics we have on hand, if desired) to test the changes and we’ll help you assess and refine the adjustments as desired. Having 3 full days is especially helpful if you want to work on more than one core pattern or focus on fitting Eureka Pants.

Some of our guests use their time productively at Sew Successfully retreats to plan and execute a seasonal or travel wardrobe, like Sue and Therese did. Carrie and Rae can provide guidance with fabric selection and style choices as well inspiration to add special details that take your projects up a notch. If you want to fill out your wardrobe with variations on core patterns, we will walk you through all of the pattern work and make sure the variations align with your already fitted core patterns. If your vision requires learning a new technique, we’re there to teach you what you need to know.

We also love collaborating with guests who bring a treasured piece or group of fabrics along to work into a one-of-a -kind special garment. Sometimes its vintage fabric or a previously loved garment, sometimes a beautiful or exotic souvenir from traveling, sometimes a proudly handmade textile. Rae and Carrie are honored to help you make a plan and find the confidence to finally cut into that precious piece. This year we hope a guest, or a few, will bring along a quilt or quilt top to craft into a treasured quilted jacket or coat inspired by Sewing Quilted Patchwork Jackets!

Meet us at the Baltimore Heritage Quilt Expo

Speaking of quilts into quilted jackets, Fit for Art is looking forward to participating in the bi-annual Quilt Expo sponsored by the Baltimore Heritage Quilt Guild. You’ll find us at the fairgrounds in Timonium, MD on April 26 and 27. If you are in the area, stop by to see our collection of quilted jackets and coats in person and to get a signed copy of our book Sewing Quilted Patchwork Jackets. Fit for Art will be presenting a one-hour demo/lecture session during the Quilt Expo at 3 p.m. on Saturday on making a jacket from a quilt or quilt top.

We hope to see you this Spring, sewing successfully! Carrie

  1. What is the size range for these quilted jackets.

    1. The jacket/coat pattern included with the book ranges from size XS to 3XL, the same as our line of Tabula Rasa Jacket and Knit patterns.
