Our first Sew! Let’s Get Dressed blog post was published on May 13, 2014. My how time flies when you are having fun! That post, entitled True Confessions, still captures our basic philosophy about sewing clothing and our motivations for starting Fit for Art Patterns in 2010. We have added much more to our company’s offerings, but we remain committed to help each of you sew clothing that fits your body, mind and spirit.*
In the Beginning
The advent of the blog was our migration to a new website designed in WordPress, which offered a way to launch a blog. We were assured it would be easy. While we now understand how to manage the technical aspects, and in fact have survived several system changes, it was not easy in the beginning. Photos we included would appear sideways, links would not work, and some of our readers did not understand how to take advantage of links.
A lot has changed in 10 years besides getting better at writing posts. Over the years we have expanded our pattern line and added digital patterns, fabric, interfacing, tools and other products; increased our website resources with written and video tutorials; moved into teaching in person and online; added retreats and more.
All along the way, we have written weekly blog posts that cover events, products, books, exhibits, travels, and of course sewing techniques that range from basic to advanced. Because you keep coming back, we keep writing fresh topics to provide terrific sewing experiences. The blog content might not always be easy, but we hope to inspire you to grow as a sewist and try new techniques using your tried and true Fit for Art core wardrobe patterns.
Help Us Celebrate 10 Years
To celebrate the blog’s 10th anniversary and more than 500 blog posts, we are offering you a coupon code for 10% off all paper patterns. Of course when we started this blog journey, paper was the only type of pattern we had available. Use the code 10YEARS through May 21 to take advantage of this offer.
Over the coming months, we will revisit some of our favorite posts from the archives to feature in the blog. But now it’s your turn! Visit our blog archive where you’ll find categories that can help you search for past posts on topics of interest and a search bar to find keywords. Is there a topic that will help with your upcoming sewing projects?
We would love to know your interests, so please leave us a message in the comments:
- What is your favorite post from the archive?
- What topics are missing that you think deserve our attention?
- What would you like to see us include in the blog going forward?
Or simply give us a shout out about how much you have appreciated our weekly reminders to keep sewing garments that make you happy and satisfy your creative inclinations. If you leave us a message with a useful blog idea or a thank you note, we will privately send you a small gift as a token of our appreciation for your support.
Thanks for Celebrating the Blog! Carrie and Rae
*By the way, you can attend Rae’s class “Fitting the Body, Mind and Spirit” at the ASG conference in June; it’s an exploratory look at planning and sewing a successful and satisfying wardrobe. Register here for the ASG conference and Rae’s classes.
Congratulations! I have really enjoyed your content and creativity for the past 10 years and am always happy to see an email notification of the latest blog post. Here’s to the next 10 years – at least! Thank you so much for educating and inspiring us sewers.
10 years! That’s a wonderful milestone. Congrats!
I have followed your journey and loved your patterns, which provide lots of ways to be creative. I would love more info on using specialty fabrics with your patterns. Great job, ladies. Thank you!
Congratulations! I met you at a Sewing Expo years ago where you encouraged me to attend one of your retreats. From that time on I have been so impressed with your willingness to share your knowledge and to help all of us no matter what fitting challenges we may have. I can’t thank you enough.
Here’s to another 10 years!
