Meandering Morris

William Morris Quilted Jacket

A one-yard piece of William Morris cotton with birds and vines (featured on two front panels and the back yoke) inspired Carrie to make this quilted jacket.  She created the remainder of the front and back by strip-piecing several coordinating cottons and setting them off with a contrast strip.  A quilting class called “Sensuous Curves and Lines” encouraged Carrie to play with curvy seams in the strip-piecing and contrast “piping”.  Curving strips of another William Morris fabric also add interest to the sleeves.  The inside layer of this jacket is cotton flannel for a bit of warmth, and then it was lined with lightweight “china silk”.
