This Front Band Style Opus jacket features a patchwork of 5″ fabric squares cut from the author’s stash, but could easily be replicated with a coordinating designer collection of fabrics or pre-cut squares, often sold as “Charm Packs”. Fronts, back and sleeves are all cut from prepared patchwork sections and the side panels are cut from a single piece of fabric (one that was included in the patchwork design). The jacket is lined with a cotton print and the center front is finished with a narrow (1″ wide) band, button loops and buttons. The sleeves are also finished with a narrow binding and can be turned back as cuffs, showing the print lining. I can’t find out anywhere in the book on how much lining I need to buy for the Assorted Patchwork Jacket in size medium. Please help.
The amount of fabric needed for lining will of course be affected by the length of your planned jacket and the width of the fabric. The Fabric Requirements table for the Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern provide good rough guidance for a hip-length Opus jacket. In size Medium, 2 yards of 45″ wide or 1.5 yards of 60″ wide lining fabric should do the trick. Another tip is to use the pattern you’ve developed for your opus jacket to mock up a layout on appropriate width fabric and calculate the amount of lining fabric needed. Hope this helps!
