Sea Blue Batik Vest

Sea Blue Batik Vest

This batik Tabula Rasa Vest is based on the jewel neck version of Rain or Shine Variations for the Tabula Rasa Jacket.  The main fabric is a heavy weight batik with great texture and drape.  Carrie had just a narrow length of the blue swirled batik left, so combined it with plain black.  To optimize every bit of the batik scrap, she divided the back asymmetrically.

All of the finishing  – front and back facings and binding around the armholes and hem – is done in a coordinating lighter weight batik fabric from the same source (sadly, now out of business).  She balanced out the front of the vest by adding a pintuck pocket which straddles the front and side panel and chunky wooden buttons.  (This pintuck pocket is scaled slightly smaller than the free pattern on our website to fit the vest’s proportions.)  Read more about construction of this vest in our blog post Batik Butik Vest, which includes step-by-step instructions for modifying your jacket pattern to make a vest.

  1. Where oh where are you finding these awesome fabrics? This vest is fabulous!

  2. Where’s that pattern? I love it

    1. Follow the highlighted links in the photo gallery description to read all about how this vest was made. It’s based on the Rain or Shine Variations for the Tabula Rasa Jacket, but without the sleeves to create a vest.
