On the Diagonal

Handloom Batik Foundation Piecing

This jacket was pieced onto a cotton foundation to make it easier to work on the diagonals. Just stitch and flip, as you would when foundation piecing a quilt, then move onto the next seam.  It does, however, required careful planning to have your diagonal lines match at center front and side seam!   Rae chose to cover the seams with the same striped fabric she used for the binding in lieu of a band.  You can find directions for binding in lieu of the basic kimono band in Band Variations for the TRJ.  The featured fabric is another group of lovely hand block printed cotton from Handloom Batik.
