This week we are opening registration for the 2025 Enchanting France-Embellishing Fabric retreat, August 5-13 in Durfort, France. Register early to catch one of only nine spaces for this intimate adventure.
We are always excited for another sewing adventure, even as we have just completed our Fall Sew Successfully Retreat at the Maritime Institute in Baltimore and launched our latest virtual, on-demand Knit Sewing class. Sewing adventures are good for the soul, whether you travel far afield, stay close to home, or have your adventurous experience in front of your computer and sewing machine. Here at Fit for Art, Carrie and Rae cannot believe how lucky we are to have sewing adventures with you; it makes us all better people and better stitchers.
Our Fifth French Sewing Adventure
This week, we will try to entice you to join us in France for eight days of international fiber exploration with a small town twist. Many sewing trips to Europe are held in large cities with lots of couture focus and urban appeal, but we are headed again to La Cascade, a small artists retreat center in a very small village in the southwest of France. The pace is slow, the food locally wholesome, and the accommodation charmingly and comfortably simple.
Our field trips will include visits to local sights, museums, fabric emporiums and markets. These trips will inform our fabric play in the artist studio on the third floor of our home away from home. The sound of the mountain stream outside the windows sets the pace for easy exploration of a number of surface design techniques that can be incorporated into quilts, garments that are handmade, embellished or refashioned and unique gifts. We will even experiment with a medieval dying technique that turns fabric the most beautiful shades of blue.
We believe that a change in location can open up new worlds of fabric inspiration. Given the slow pace of our surroundings and creative play on the to do list, finding satisfaction in textile exploration becomes a pleasurable pastime again.
Follow this link Enchanting France Embellishing Fabric for more information about the trip, its logistics and all other details. Then, click on the registration button if you are game to try something new with sewing friends you trust.
