Rae crafted this collaged and quilted Tabula Rasa Vest from a variety of fabrics in her stash. The Japanese ladies were cut out from a cotton quilting panel and raw-edge collaged to the surface of the vest. In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete” in nature. It is prevalent throughout all forms of Japanese art. This project perfectly captures that philosophy!
