Kimono Flowers

A rich collection of green, aqua and orange kimono silks were pieced together on this Tabula Rasa Jacket using the stitch and flip foundation piecing technique. The jacket is finished with the narrow band found in the Band Variations and Pockets Pattern and the roll back cuff from the Sleeves and Cuffs Variations. The jacket was featured in Threads Magazine 2017 Softly Piecing article and in the online extra Intriguing Details for Pieced Garments.  The drapey silks were stitched and flipped to a silk crepe de chine base so it is light weight with a lovely soft hang.   The beauty of this piecing method is that the bias piecing is smoothly stable because of the straight of grain base under the decorative sections.  Read more about this jacket in the Samples for Threads blog post.  Read more about the stitch and flip quilting technique in the post Stitch and Flip Engineering.
