V Neckline Wool Tunic

Carrie made this V-Neckline Variation on a Carpe Diem Tunic from a 2-yard piece of fabric she won in a drawing at the ASDP annual conference several years ago. We had to laugh because Rae had stitched up a Tabula Rasa Shirt from the very same fabric a few years earlier. Rae warned Carrie that this plaid was challenging to work with, and she was right; it was a layout quandary!

Carrie cut the front and back out of the simpler striped sections of the fabric and worked the sleeves and sides out of the plaid sections with more color. Because the wool blend fabric was so light weight, she underlined the front and back sections with navy broadcloth in her stash. The facings are purple silk lining scraps also from her stash. She opted to add the Curved Collar and Cuffs that come with V Neckline Variations for a tailored looking winter top.

There is no back opening in this tunic, because Carrie didn’t want to have to match the back along a seam line, and so the collar is also closed at center back. As a cautionary note, make sure you will be able to pull the collared Carpe Diem top over your head before committing to one with no opening! Carrie tested the fit of the collar out first in another V neck top with a keyhole opening and button.
