Say Hello to V Neckline Variations for Carpe Diem

We are thrilled to introduce to you our first variation for our woven Dress and Tunic pattern with some fun new design features that swirl around V neckline openings.  So read on and say hello to V Neckline Variations for the Carpe Diem Dress & Tunic.

Basic V neck with a facing and a little extra flat piping detail.

It took us some time to decide about the shape of our V neck in relation to the original scoop neck on the Carpe Diem pattern.  If you have ever tried to turn a scoop neckline into a V neckline, you might have hit some of the same walls we did — either it is too low or too high, but never quite right.  But we persevered and think our new V neckline is graceful and practical; the V shape is flattering while keeping each creation from slipping off the shoulders.  As with all of our pattern variations, there is a sidebar designed to help you make the V more dramatic or more modest.

V Neck Template and Facings

The most basic V Neckline version starts with a template for a V front and V back and facings to match for all Carpe Diem views.  The front is lower than the back, again to balance the garment successfully on the shoulders.  Use the template that matches your size to change the original scoop neckline to a V.  The V necklines can be mixed and matched with the scoop neck so if you want to have a V in front only you can use the original neckline in the back, or vice versa.  We will be blogging regularly about some of the tops and dresses we have created using the templates, so stay tuned.

Add a Curved Collar and Cuffs

The package includes a pattern for a small, curved collar that can be dropped into the V front with scoop neck back to give a more professional or cozy winter look.  There is also a pattern for a coordinating tailored curved cuff to add to the original sleeve to complete this look.

Crossover V Yoke for More Styling Options

We also got a kick out of making a Crossover V Front Yoke and a Back V Yoke, which are perfect for using up coordinating scraps and trims.  The yokes, which are constructed together, are lined before inserting into the any view of Carpe Diem dress or top, whether with sleeves, cap sleeves or sleeveless.

While the yokes are designed to be lined, we have also included a bonus sidebar technique to help you finish the yoke necklines with bias tape for even more fun combinations.

New Tie Sleeve for any Carpe Diem

Finally, we have included a totally new sleeve, the two-piece tie sleeve.  It is graceful in drapey fabrics, such as SewBatik rayon or linen, and dramatic in crisp fabrics that look great on both sides, such as silk taffeta. Of course, the tie sleeve can be used with an original scoop neck Carpe Diem to expand your style options.

For the first time ever, Fit for Art is releasing a new pattern in digital format only. As usual, our digital patterns come in 3 formats (tiled for printing and assembling at home, large and A0 formats for copy shop printing) and are accompanied by a detailed, illustrated instruction book. We’ve made an effort to group the tiled and A0 pattern pieces carefully to minimize the number of sheets a user must print. If you are purchasing a digital pattern from Fit for Art for the first time, consult the Digital Pattern FAQs for helpful hints and make sure you establish an account on our website for easy repeated access to the pattern.

Check out our V Neckline Variation photo gallery for inspiration! While many of the gallery pieces are summery garments, we are working on fall and winter versions, too, so be sure to follow our social media.

So glad you can now say Hello to V Neckline Variations for the Carpe Diem!  This fun pattern got sidetracked by the writing of our book Sewing Quilted Patchwork Jackets and those of you who are fans know we have been talking about it for some time.  It is our pleasure to present it to you now.  Search your stash and begin designing and sewing with this terrific variation for our woven Carpe Diem Dress & Tunic pattern.

Happy V Neck Stitching, Carrie and Rae
