Double the Orient

Double-faced Cotton Jaquard - dark side

This beautiful jacket is made from three pieces of double-faced cotton jacquard from Japan.  Rae made it into a very useful light-weight reversible jacket.  What a great garment for travel; it gives you both a black and a tan jacket to wear with all of your travel clothes for 3 season.  Add a pop of bright color with the tank or tee worn underneath the jacket.

Rae did a lot of careful planning and a bit of handwork to make it a successful reversible jacket.  The seams are french seams that were stitched and top-stitched on the dark side.  The hem was created by turning the selvage edge of the dark side up to create a border on the light side of the jacket.  Rae chose a lantern cuff on a 3/4 length sleeve because it is light enough to wear in warm weather.  The cuff is strategically cut to feature her favorite motif from the fabric and finished at both edges with more of the fabric selvage.  Read about the specific details in our blog post Japanese Double Faced Cotton Part 1 and Japanese Double Face Cotton Part 2.
