SUMMARY:Workshop with Mary Ray
DESCRIPTION:The Baltimore Chapter of the Association of Sewing and Design Professionals is pleased to sponsor a trunk show and one day workshop with sewing expert and instructor Mary Ray.  In addition to teaching apparel design and construction\, Mary is a frequent contributor to Threads Magazine.  Look up her recent articles in Threads Magazine on making scrap lace to incorporate into a garment (issue #169) and on boro style stitching (issue #191). \nEnjoy Mary’s Trunk Show featuring a selection of garments and accessories that inspire and teach about fabric\, design\, embellishment\, and technique including award-winning pieces\, garments that have appeared in Threads Magazine\, and current projects using sustainable techniques. As she shows her work\, she relates stories of her creative life and travels along the way.  Free for ASDP members\, fee for non-members.  Friday\, March 15th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. \nOn Saturday\, join the full day Scrap Lace Workshop.  What do you do with fabric scraps that are too small to use and too precious to throw away? Sew them together and make a new piece of fabric. In this workshop you will experiment with fabric\, thread\, and stitch combinations that can be used for small sections of a garment like a yoke or sleeves and learn how to use the technique to create large pieces. It’s a creative way to make your garments one-of-a-kind. Additionally\, this technique can expand an amount of fabric that’s not quite enough for the project you want to make. DESCRIPTION:Fit for Art Patterns is pleased to join the biennial Baltimore Heritage Quilters Guild Expo again this year!  We will host a booth in the Vendor’s Mall to display inspiring garment samples\, size the Tabula Rasa Jacket or Knit Tee & Tunic patterns for customers\, and sell our patterns and other products.  Please visit our booth while you enjoy all of the quilt exhibits and other vendors. \nThe EXPO showcases quilts made by guild members\, ranging in style from traditional to contemporary\, as well as art quilts. DESCRIPTION:Join Rae and Carrie for expert guidance on this sewing retreat for beginner to advanced sewists.  Let us inspire your creativity on a project of your choosing!  Plus\, you’ll enjoy the fun of working in a community of fellow sewists in a beautiful space!  We will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to provide individualized help toward success on your sewing projects.  This may include assistance with: \n\nFitting Fit for Art’s patterns beginning from our fit samples or from the mock-up or garment you bring with you;\nMaking pattern adjustments for fit;\nModifying a Fit for Art jacket\, knit or pants pattern for Variations or Details;\nPlanning a coordinated travel or everyday wardrobe;\nWorking with fabric in your stash\, such as developing a mixed fiber garment;\nPlanning and making a more complex wearable art garment;\nTrying a project featured in a Sew! Let’s Get Dressed blog post;\nOr whatever sewing project you are dreaming about!\n\nSpecial Project!  Make a Painted Knit Tabula Rasa Top.  You may have seen recent blog posts about our experiments with painting knit fabrics for a Tabula Rasa Tee or Tunic.  We are loving this new liquid paint on knit fabrics!  So you can enjoy it too\, we will set up a painting center for your experiments and\, if you’d like\, to create your own Painted Knit TRK top. \nThe fee is $140 per day for 2 to 4 days and $130 per day for all 5 days.  The fee includes complimentary parking\, a buffet lunch with lots of choices\, and ample snacks and beverages each day.  Fit for Art will provide a sewing table for each participant (which can be left set up day-to-day) plus: cutting tables\, ironing stations\, serger\, pattern paper\, pattern drafting tools\, and the Tabula Rasa Jacket and Eureka! Pants that Fit fitting shells.  Bring your own sewing machine\, serger if desired\, basic sewing and cutting tools\, patterns\, fabric\, thread and notions for your projects.  We will also have Fit for Art’s patterns\, tools and select fabrics (including solid rayon/spandex knits for painting) available for purchase. \nLocation: Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum Maryland (right by the Baltimore Washington International Airport).
