DESCRIPTION:Join Rae and Carrie for 3 days of dedicated sewing at this retreat for beginner to advanced sewists.  Let us inspire your creativity on a project or help you perfect that fit while working in a community of fellow sewists in a beautiful space.  We will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to provide expert guidance and individualized help toward success on your chosen sewing projects. This may include assistance with: \n\n\n\n\nFitting Fit for Art’s patterns\, beginning from our fit samples or from the mock-up or garment you bring with you.\n\n\n\nMaking pattern adjustments for fit.\n\n\n\nModifying a Fit for Art jacket\, knit\, or pants pattern for Variations or Details.\n\n\n\nPlanning a coordinated travel or everyday wardrobe.\n\n\n\nWorking with fabric in your stash\, such as developing a mixed fiber garment.\n\n\n\nPlanning and making a more complex wearable art garment.\n\n\n\nTrying a project featured in a Sew! Let’s Get Dressed blog post.\n\n\n\nCreating a quilted jacket\, vest or coat.\n\n\n\nOr whatever Fit for Art sewing project you are dreaming about!\n\n\n\n\nCost\n\n\n\nThe fee is $725 for the 3-day retreat. The fee includes lunch and ample snacks and beverages each day\, and complimentary parking. Fit for Art will provide a sewing table for each participant (which can be left set up day-to-day) plus: cutting tables\, ironing stations\, pattern paper\, pattern drafting tools\, and the Tabula Rasa Jacket and Eureka! Pants that Fit fitting shells. Bring your own sewing machine\, serger if desired\, basic sewing and cutting tools\, patterns\, fabric\, thread and notions for your projects. We will also have Fit for Art’s patterns\, tools\, interfacing\, mock-up fabric\, and select fashion fabrics available for purchase. \n\n\n\nLocation\n\n\n\nMaritime Conference Center in Linthicum Maryland (right by the Baltimore Washington International Airport). This lovely facility is easily accessible from the airport\, train\, light rail or MARC.  Rooms are available for $179 per night for a single or $241 for a double\, plus state and local taxes. SUMMARY:Chasing Coco in Enchanted France
DESCRIPTION:Our lane in Durfort\n\n\n\nFit for Art Patterns invites you to refresh your creative spirit at La Cascade Artists Retreat in Durfort\, a medieval artisan village in the Languedoc region of southern France. Join Rae Cumbie and guest instructor Barbie McCormick for a week of stitching\, exploring and sharing ideas with like-minded makers.  Registration will begin on Wednesday October 21 at noon eastern time. \n\n\n\n\nThe sunflowers welcome you\n\n\n\nRae and Barbie welcome you\n\n\n\n\nThis year\, we’ll be chasing Coco—exploring the legendary sewing techniques Coco Chanel developed for her soft yet sophisticated jackets more than a century ago. In the studio\, we’ll work with classic Chanel-inspired materials such as boucle and silk to create a vest and/or bag. Rae and Barbie will guide you through the process\, from personalizing Fit for Art’s Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern and selecting materials to cutting\, stitching and embellishing your project. \n\n\n\n\nShopping at Aline’s magical Antique Textile and Paper Attalier\n\n\n\nShopping at Aline’s magical Antique Textile and Paper Attalier\n\n\n\n\nOur days will be divided between creative time in the cozy third-floor studio of our 17th-century home and excursions around the region. We’ll visit neighboring Revel with its famous regional market and explore the tree-lined streets\, flower fields\, peaceful vistas\, small villages and historic landmarks in the surrounding countryside . \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial outings connected to our Coco theme will include a visit to a textile museum with exhibits on the making of boucle threads and fabrics\, plus shopping at a fine fabric store known for its beautiful selection of boucle and silk. Rae’s bilingual daughter\, Anna\, who lives and works in Toulouse as an English teacher\, will join us from time to time and add another layer to our French adventure. \n\n\n\n\nFabrics \n\n\n\nHistoric Samples\n\n\n\nDying Room at Textile Museum\n\n\n\n\nRetreat Details\n\n\n\nThe retreat fee is $3\,350 and includes materials\, lodging\, all group meals\, field trips and plenty of memorable experiences. Class size is limited to 9 participants. A limited number of single rooms are available for an additional $800.
