SUMMARY:Vests of Many Colors with Artistic Artifacts
DESCRIPTION:Vests are a great way to use a special fabric\, so let’s get started! Fit for Art’s Rae and Carrie designed a vest using the Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern and Artistic Artifacts’ beautiful cotton Ikat imports from India. Judy and her team loved it\, and now it’s your turn to make your own version during a 2-day workshop at Artistic Artifacts in Alexandria VA. As always\, we will begin with fit on day one. Bring a TRJ Mockup and pattern pieces if you already have them\, or have a sizing and stitch up a sample to assure your vest will be just your size. Then choose the fabric and the details from the Artistic Artifacts Vest\, or try out details from Fit for Art’s vest and jacket collection. On day two\, the pattern will be adjusted\, interior and exterior supports chosen and vests stitched up for your wearing enjoyment. You will leave with a pattern that fits and can be used for dozens of different garment designs and you will be well on your way to a finished vest.

Bring your favorite woven fabrics from home or choose some fabrics from the excellent collection at Artistic Artifacts for your first of many Carpe Diem creations.  The cropped Carpe Diem pictured was sewn in Indian hand block printed cotton; Rae trimmed the cuffs and hem with recycled trim she had hand-dyed in Judy’s summer Dye Days class. The possibilities are endless!

DESCRIPTION:Two-day TRJ Workshop at Spring Water Designs in Columbia MD June 20 & 27\, 2026 \n\n\n\nSpend two action packed days learning how to fit and fashion a fun wardrobe of toppers using the Tabula Rasa Jacket pattern from Fit for Art Patterns. On day one\, Rae and Carrie will help you identify the correct jacket size using sizing shells\, adjust your pattern with your personal fit adjustments\, cut\, mark\, and sew your mock-up. The first session will close with a look at possible fabrics students brought for a wearable mock-up. On day two\, students will begin designing and making their own wearable jacket\, see and learn about supports and finishes that will make your jackets beautiful and functional for years. Finally\, instructors will touch on the wide range of possibilities for future mixed fiber jackets\, quilted jackets\, drapey tops and shirts.

SUMMARY:Spark Creativity in Enchanting France
DESCRIPTION:La Cascade\, Durfort France \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Rae* and her artistic friends Aline Cauvin** and Dayle Doroshow*** for a restful and fanciful week of making in the village of Durfort\, France. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe La Cascade studio will be filled with vintage papers\, trims\, lace and fabulous fabric for creating unique books to give or to keep — for recording thoughts\, travel highlights\, words to live by\, or whatever strikes your fancy. The teaching team will provide gentle guidance in how to make and organize pages in a variety of paper and fabric based constructions. Of course there will be paints and pens\, needles and threads and all manner of tools for creating fabric books to store your explorations of new and favorite techniques or tools. Outings in the surrounding countryside will inspire each day’s activities. \n\n\n\n\nAline’s treasure trove of vintage fabrics and papers.\n\n\n\nPeaches were lovely at the Revel market \n\n\n\n\nOur home away from home is a medieval townhouse in a copper making village nestled in the shadow of the Black Mountains.  Life here has long been grounded in creativity.  The cool stream that falls down the mountain and cascades beside the back patio of La Cascade sets the tone for interesting days and restful nights. Our host\, Nese\, will keep us nourished with lovely local food from the summer’s bounty.  The cozy atmosphere is magical and inspirational discoveries are around every corner.   \n\n\n\n\nDinner on the Patio\n\n\n\nOur host and chef\, Nese.\n\n\n\n\nPlease take note that this retreat is held in a charming but very old house in France; the only access to the 2d floor bedroom accommodations and 3d floor studio is by stairs. There is no air conditioning other than the natural air and cool stream running along side the premises; summer in Southern France can be quite warm. \n\n\n\nIncluded accommodations are double occupancy with shared baths. A limited number of single rooms are available for an additional fee of $800.  We’ll travel in shared rental cars from the Toulouse airport to La Cascade and environs. \n\n\n\nWelcome to La Cascade!\n\n\n\nThe retreat fee of $3250 includes most materials\, room\, board\, field trips and priceless experiences. She has had an exciting career introducing her extensive collection of textiles and paper to inspire book makers\, authors and designers in fashion for the body and home in Europe and NYC.  Since 2020 she has also shared her collection on Instagram @antiquetextileshop.  Aline now enjoys a peaceful life in Durfort where you are welcome to spend time in her workspace. \n\n\n\n***Guest instructor Dayle Doroshow is a mixed media artist and owner of design studio Zingaro\, stamp of distinction.  She trained in traditional ceramics at Columbia University Extension program in New York City and sold her pottery in Greenwich Village shops. She continued with the study of Book Arts at California Crafts College and San Francisco Center for the Book. She studied jewelry with mentors Gwen Gibson and Tory Hughes and her large textile wall hangings incorporate the jewelry she makes.  Her work is featured in over eighteen publications.
